Medical Aesthetics Diploma

Overview

This comprehensive diploma program examines the fundamentals of the spa industry as well as advanced medical spa treatments. Students will learn a vast array of topics starting from all the standard aesthetic practices, to medical skin care up to spa business operations and spa professionalism and etiquette. Since the spa business industry is constantly evolving and growing, students will have a closer look at how the industry first started to the decades of changes throughout the years. Creating a business plan and setting specific goals in starting a spa business will be closely looked at and examined in this course. We ensure that students will leave the program ready to enter the spa and medical spa industry with a foundation and acquired skill sets needed to properly perform treatments and successfully grow as a professional Medical Aesthetician or Standard Aesthetician.

 

What You Will Learn
Fundamentals of Skin Care

  • Theoretical knowledge of the History and evolution of the spa industry, Anatomy, physiology and histology of the skin, Bacteriology and Sanitation protocols, skin diseases and disorders.
  • Practical and theoretical skills including Skin Analysis and client consultations
  • Complete facial procedures and advanced techniques.
  • Fundamental electricity concepts for skin care machines.


Medical Skin Care

  • Theoretical knowledge and practical skills including Advanced skin typing and analysis followed by proper client documentation.
  • Client consultations and client care.
  • Chemical peels using various peel depths and strengths to suit the client's Conditions.
  • Microneedling.


Nail Technologies

  • Theoretical knowledge of Anatomy and physiology of the hand, arm, leg and foot, diseases and disorders of the nails.
  • Sanitation and disinfection procedures.
  • Traditional techniques for manicure and pedicure treatments.
  • Upgraded advanced nail care treatments with the use of luxury salt scrubs, masks and paraffin treatments.
  • Gel polish applications and acrylic nail enhancements.

 

Body Therapies

  • Theoretical knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, systems and histology of the body.
  • Disinfection and sanitation protocols followed by indications and contraindications for massage.
  • Client consultations and client care.
  • Practical skills of Traditional Swedish Relaxation Massage, Body scrubs, Body wrap treatments, Lymphatic Drainage, Aromatherapy Massage and the use of essential Oils.


Hair Removal

  • Theoretical knowledge of Hair anatomy, physiology and morphology.
  • Disinfection and sanitation protocols.
  • History of hair removal, stages of hair growth, hair disorders and contraindications.
  • Conducting client consultations and proper Client documentation.
  • Practical applications of temporary hair removal techniques using waxing, sugaring and threading.

 

Electrolysis and Introduction to Injectables

  • Theoretical knowledge of Hair anatomy, physiology and morphology, concepts of dermal fillers and neurotoxins, medical terminology, facial bones, muscles and nerves.
  • Principles of electricity pertaining to electrolysis.
  • Disinfection and sanitation protocols along with history of hair removal, stages of hair growth and hair disorders.
  • Client consultations and proper client documentation.
  • Practical application of permanent hair removal: electrolysis.
  • *Please note: injectables can only be administered by a physician or a trained Registered Nurse with a valid practicing license.

 

Laser and Light Therapies

  • Theoretical knowledge of Laser history, physics and tissue interactions, power of lasers and different types of lasers in the market including diode, alexandrite, YAG, indications and contraindications.
  • Responsibilities of a laser safety agent and laser safety basics.
  • Practical applications of IPL hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments.
  • Client consultations and proper client documentation.
  • Regulatory requirements.


Makeup

  • Theoretical knowledge in the history of the cosmetic industry and training of the French cosmetics brand, Make Up For-Ever, characteristics of the face including contours of different face and eye shapes, precision eyebrow shaping, determining a client's undertone, colour theory, warm vs. cool colours.
  • Beauty and bridal applications including natural beauty, evening makeup, Smokey eye applications, Bridal makeup, Glamour and creative designs with Step-by-step demonstrations for all applications.
  • Corrective techniques for photography.
  • Starting a freelance business with creative photo shoot fundamentals.


Building your Medi-Spa Business

  • Creating your own Spa Business through a detailed professional business plan
  • Types of Business ownerships.
  • Administrative and basic business skills including financial plans, inventory and record tracking along with receptionist skills and spa booking software available in the market.
  • Marketing and advertising strategies.


Consultative Sales

  • Client consultations, client history review, selling techniques and strategies.
  • Soft selling vs hard selling.
  • Upselling services and products to clients.
  • Interpersonal skills and professional interactions with clients.


Job Preparation

  • Creating a professional spa Resume and Cover Letter
  • Tips for Interviewing Skills and performing mock interviews with real life scenarios.
  • Networking and interpersonal skills within the industry.
  • Meeting industry professionals and access to professional spa suppliers.


Spa Internship (210-hour Spa Internship)

  • As part of program requirements, this spa internship allows students to continue to refine and enhance their aesthetic skills to help gain confidence and a thorough knowledge of spa operations by working on real paying clients or students.
  • This spa internship will be a supervised internship in the Spa facility located at the college.
  • Upon completion of their program, students will be able Conduct client consultations and perform any and all treatments learned in school, track the client progress in client files, perform administrative tasks, inventory tracking and assist in any spa related duties.

- Student has an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, OR

- Is 18 years of age or older on or before the program begins AND can pass an admission test

- Immunization report, Canadian criminal records report & police check
